Task7 - Problem and Solution

In recent years, there have been a lot of major changes in the world. One of the most important changes that happened is the global warming which has rapidly increased. Global Warming is a term used to describe the changing in the weather in the last few years. In this semester I carried out 6 tasks about the global warming and this is task 7 which is the last task. In this task I will present the arguments about the global warming.

We watched a movie called “An Inconvenient Truth”. The film was presented by former United States Vice President Al Gore and directed by Davis Guggenheim. It was talking about the main reasons of Global Warming and how in time the ice will melt and the quantity of the water will increase the sea level by 25 meters which will cause floods. Hurricane Katrina happened due to the global warming. Mr. Al Gore has presented the presentation at least 1000 times in many different countries to make people aware about the causes of the global warming in our life and how the Arctic life will be affected and suffer. Inconvenient Truth. Dir. Davis Guggenheim.
The Diva has written a positive review for the movie. He is saying that the global warming is a passion for Al Gore, because he was thinking about it when he was in college about 30 years ago, and he said that what Al Gore shows us could happen with the warming trend; it’s enough to make you want to go and throw your car away. An Inconvenient Truth. June 7th, 2006. The Diva.2mar.2009

In addition, I measured my carbon footprint which was 2.69 and the average of the carbon footprint in my class is 3.86 which is a very high level.

To reduce my carbon footprint there are many ways. The first way is to reduce my yearly traveling because I’m traveling many times yearly. Another way is to reduce my use of the electricity because I’m using the electricity a lot every day while I’m using my computer surfing the internet. Yet another way to reduce my carbon footprint is to change my car but I really can’t do this. One of the most important ways is to use the public transportation because buses can take more people with one consumption for the energy. http://footprint.wwf.org.uk/.

Task 6 - Cool City

Nowadays, the usage of carbon and energy are very high and if we keep using it at the same capacity we will need to find another earth to live in which is impossible. The video said that we have to reduce the carbon dioxide emitted in the air by a half. In the last 30 years Japan has improved the energy efficiency by 37% and decreased the oil consumption by 8%.

Cool Cities are cities that are built to reduce the rate of carbon dioxide on the earth, by building a city that depends on natural resources, renewable energy and using hybrid cars. The cool city was built by a group of Japanese companies called SDCJ. The cool city contains all the transportation that we need and many facilities that we can use. After 2030 they will be using hybrid cars that don’t emit emissions into the air. At that time, they are accepting a decrease in carbon dioxide by 60%.

Abu Dhabi's population is growing very fast every year. The government has started to build a project that makes Abu Dhabi a cool city. They started this in Masdar City and Saadiat Island. They started to build these cities to reduce the carbon footprint. In my opinion, this will not happen especially in the UAE and it’s just a waste of time. I think that this problem will continue to increase and they will not find a solution for it.

Traditions weigh on China's women "Summary3"

Traditions weigh on China's women

China happens to be the only country in the world in which more women commit suicide than men and such problems are increased in rural areas. Some people such as the ones at the Beijing Cultural Development Centre for Rural Women are trying their best to succeed in preventing Chinese women from committing suicide.

They first gathered common reasons for such incidents and came up with some reasons such as the availability of poisons in agricultural areas marriage problems which are the most likely reason for Chinese ladies to commit suicide. Some marriage fights may occur between the husband and wife; some marriages are arranged marriages which are very difficult, because the girl has to adjust to a completely new atmosphere than the one she was raised in and she never knows what to expect of her husband’s family. They might treat her in a cruel way which causes depression and therefore leading to her committing suicide. A lot of ladies in China try to commit suicide thinking it might get them better treatment and some think of it as a way to gain some dignity.

However after mentioning some of the common reasons for suicidal attempts in China the Beijing Cultural Development Centre for Rural Women was formed. They provided women with village-based support groups where they can express their feelings, and receive information on mental health which was a great idea that made a lot of progress with Chinese ladies.

Main idea

Female suicide in China is one of the most common problems. China happens to be the only country in the world in which more women commit suicide than men. This is because of many reasons and the common reason is because of the families traditions which are very strict.

Opinion

I think women in China should be freer to take their own decisions and do what they desire. Also I think they should get more respect and better treatment. On the other hand, it’s also because of the Chinese traditions. In my opinion it’s the government’s responsibility, they should make their people aware more and access more organizations to solve this problem.

Task5 Carbon FootPrint

I measured my carbon footprint at
http://footprint.wwf.org.uk/

& it was 2.69.

I answered many questions about my lifestyle and my carbon footprint is one of the lowest in the class. My friends’ carbon footprints are 4.39, 3.64, 3.3 and 2.22. The average of the carbon footprint in my class is 3.86 which is a very high level.

In the UAE, the footprint is a common problem; it has the highest carbon footprint per capita in the world and I think this is because of our industry and our lifestyle. In the UAE all the companies, colleges and shops spend a lot of carbon footprint. In my opinion there are also many reasons for the highest levels of carbon footprint. For example, UAE people travel many times in the year which is increasing the carbon footprint in the UAE.

What can I do to reduce my carbon footprint?

To reduce my carbon footprint there are many ways. The first way is to reduce my yearly traveling because I’m traveling many times yearly. Another way is to reduce my uses of the electricity because I’m using the electricity a lot every day while I’m using my computer surfing the internet. Yet another way to reduce my carbon footprint is to change my car but I really can’t do this. One of the most important ways is to use the public transportation because buses can take more people with one consumption for the energy.

Overall, there are many ways to reduce this percentage of the carbon footprint, but no one really wants to change his lifestyle. I think that this problem will continue to increase and will not stop at this level. In my own opinion, the scientists must make people aware and discover new ways that cost less energy to save our planet.

Task 4, Argument: An Inconvenient Truth

Argument: An Inconvenient Truth

Some people say that the “Inconvenient Truth” is not a very good movie and it discusses a small problem or it’s not a problem at all, but there are other people who say that it discusses a very serious problem and it’s a good way to show us a lot of facts. So this essay will talk about different opinions and two reviews of the movie, one negative and one positive and at last I will put my opinion.

The Diva has written a positive review for the movie. He is saying that the global warming is a passion for Al Gore, because he was thinking about it when he was in college about 30 years ago. and he said that what Al Gore shows us could happen with the warming trend; it’s enough to make you want to go and throw your car away.
Scott also has written a review, but this time it’s a negative one. He said that the movie doesn’t seem to be about global warming, it was more about Al Gore and his life and about selling Al Gore as a human being and possibly a future presidential candidate, and he was trying to emotionally manipulate that fact by telling about losing his sister to lung cancer. He is presenting in the movie jokes against Bush and other republicans.

I think the movie was very good for some people, because it talks about a very important issue we are facing, and he is waking us up to face this problem. I found it boring and not exciting because I knew about this phenomenon a long time ago.

Riches Await As Earth's Icy North Melts "Summary 2"

Summary

An international race between many countries includes Canada and Denmark. This race is all for one small island that you couldn’t find on the map, called Hans Island. This huge race is because it’s very rich in oil, fish, diamonds and shipping routes. The global warming has a hand in this island by warming the ice cap faster than any other part of the world. Another reason is that the Arctic holds almost 25% of the world’s undiscovered oil and gas. These reasons make the countries fight to own this small island. Now it’s easy to find the oil and gas faster than before because of the climate changes. Old studies show that the ice will melt in 100 years, but the new studies show something completely different. It shows that the ice will melt in the next 10 to 15 years which is really small term compared to the old one. Now the countries should stop the racing or this continuing ice melting will affect the climate. Nowadays, both countries have sent warships to that island and are waiting for ice melting to get the oil first but there is no risk of war.

Main idea

There is an international fight between many countries for a small island called Hans looking for oil, fish and diamonds.

Opinion

In my opinion, these countries are only looking to make money and ignore the nature and the danger of some resources. I see that while these greedy countries are looking at this money, many people are at risk of this serious phenomenon.

An Inconvenient Truth

We watched a movie called “An Inconvenient Truth”. Many people are not aware of how serious this problem is, and this movie is simply talking about the global warming and how this problem is serious. Global warming is the most critical issue that will affect the whole planet and any life on earth.

The film was presented by former United States Vice President Al Gore and directed by Davis Guggenheim. It was talking about the main reason of Global Warming and how in time the ice will melt and the quantity of the water will increase the sea level by 25 meters which will cause floods. Hurricane Katrina happened due to the global warming. Mr. Al Gore has presented the presentation 1000 times in many different countries to make people aware about the causes of the global warming in our life and how the Arctic life will be affected and suffer.

I think that the film was very interesting for some people because it talks about one of the most important issues in our life which is the global warming. Some people aren't aware of it because they think it is something not true and the scientists have exaggerated. In my own opinion about this movie, I found it boring and not exciting because I knew about this phenomenon a long time ago.

Task 2 blog project

Global Warming is a term used to describe the changing in the weather in the last few years. There are ten special climate areas on the earth: tropical, subtropical, arid, semi-arid, Mediterranean, temperate, northern temperate, mountain, polar, and coastal. There are two major reasons for a region’s climate: the average annual temperature and the amount of precipitation received in the zone. There are many factors changing the earth’s climate, for example, the amount of solar energy, the shape and orientation of the Earth’s orbit around the sun, and the composition of the Earth’s atmosphere. The most important thing that is behind climate changes on Earth is the sun. About 30 percent of the solar radiation reaching the atmosphere is reflected back into space; another 20 percent is absorbed by the atmosphere. In fact, the climate differs from one place to other in the earth because of some another facts; for example, the Earth follows an oval-shaped path and the second fact is the Earth’s axis is tilted at an angle of 23.5 degrees in relation to the plane of the sun. Sunlight consists of radiation with short wavelengths; it’s re-radiated to the atmosphere in a form that consists of a longer wavelength.

The changes in global climate have changed the course of the Earth’s history. The human burn a very large amount of fossil fuels to operate factories, heat homes and offices and to power vehicles, and these activities contribute to the concentration of that CO2 gas in the atmosphere. Many scientists now believe that this change means that the higher concentration of carbon dioxide will inevitably lead to a greater retention of heat in the atmosphere. This phenomenon has been called global warming.

Task1 blog project

My name is Mohamed Hadi Al Mousawi; I'm a student at ADMC in my first year. I have 7 siblings, 3 brothers and 4 sisters. I was born on 19th, February 1989 in Abu Dhabi. I live in Abu Dhabi with my family in a villa in Zayed City which is in the middle of Abu Dhabi near Zayed City Center. My hobbies are: surfing the internet, watching movies, TV series and hanging out with my friends. My favorite actor is Wentworth Miller who is an actor in “Prison Break” series. Presently I’m working in ADCB “Abu Dhabi Commercial Bank” as a part time job. I’m working on Saturdays only from 9:00 am to 2:00 pm.

In this semester I’m doing 5 subjects: English 175, English 174, BMGN 150, ITEC 150 and ITEC 277. In English 174 we are now about to start our blog project, which is about climate change and global warming. This project contains 6 tasks; some of them we have to do it in our class times and the others in our own time and enter them in our blog.

From my own idea global warming is a serious problem which can affect the whole word and specially our health. There are many attempts to solve this problem by making people aware, by many ways like the media, of its seriousness.

UK announces world's largest algal biofuel project "Summary"

The Carbon Trust hopes to make algal biofuel a commercial reality by 2020. Transportation accounts for one quarter of the UK’s carbon emissions. Recently, a review showed that algae are a potential way to generate sustainable energy. Algae produce a range of chemicals and scientists hope to find strains that could produce oil.

For the first stage of the project, the Carbon Trust will spend up to £6m in a range of British companies involved in promising algae research. The second step of the project will start in around a year and involves scaling up the algae-growing operation. In the past there were many efforts to develop biofuels from algae, but none of them was a success. But now, the Carbon Trust believe that the interest in algae has been renewed because of the recent increases in oil prices.

There are many companies around the world already involved in making fuel from algae. The most important benefit of algae is its ability to remove CO2 from the air.

My Blog project

We are now about to start our blog project, which is about climte change and global warming.
