Traditions weigh on China's women "Summary3"

Traditions weigh on China's women

China happens to be the only country in the world in which more women commit suicide than men and such problems are increased in rural areas. Some people such as the ones at the Beijing Cultural Development Centre for Rural Women are trying their best to succeed in preventing Chinese women from committing suicide.

They first gathered common reasons for such incidents and came up with some reasons such as the availability of poisons in agricultural areas marriage problems which are the most likely reason for Chinese ladies to commit suicide. Some marriage fights may occur between the husband and wife; some marriages are arranged marriages which are very difficult, because the girl has to adjust to a completely new atmosphere than the one she was raised in and she never knows what to expect of her husband’s family. They might treat her in a cruel way which causes depression and therefore leading to her committing suicide. A lot of ladies in China try to commit suicide thinking it might get them better treatment and some think of it as a way to gain some dignity.

However after mentioning some of the common reasons for suicidal attempts in China the Beijing Cultural Development Centre for Rural Women was formed. They provided women with village-based support groups where they can express their feelings, and receive information on mental health which was a great idea that made a lot of progress with Chinese ladies.

Main idea

Female suicide in China is one of the most common problems. China happens to be the only country in the world in which more women commit suicide than men. This is because of many reasons and the common reason is because of the families traditions which are very strict.

Opinion

I think women in China should be freer to take their own decisions and do what they desire. Also I think they should get more respect and better treatment. On the other hand, it’s also because of the Chinese traditions. In my opinion it’s the government’s responsibility, they should make their people aware more and access more organizations to solve this problem.
